All people have reasons to do their work. Jen Geer is a Friend of my mom’s and a professional photographer. She is Finnish, Swedish, Italian, Norwegian. Her work is inspired by her family. One of the main events in her life was when she lost her grandparents. This inspired to capture emotions and connections in her images. On a more happy note, she was motivated to take pictures when she had her children. She was given a reason to do her work: to provide for her kids and follow her own wants.
Jen’s style of photography is family, children, senior photos, newborn and maternity photography. Her photography is always very bright and colorful. She often uses leading lines, like railroads or brick walls. They help make her images more interesting and full. The setting in the picture are in nature where there are many things around to add layers like trees or grass. She places her models in long dry grass to give depth to the picture by seeing the different levels of plane. Jen Geer’s images show emotion and movement. All her images show what the model is feeling. In the pictures a person can see what the image is portraying. The images are very clear on what the model is doing.
The photographers intent is to show a connection between the people in the picture. For example, a mother and a newborn. She may put them sitting together while the mother caringly looks at the newborn as he/she sleeps. She can describe emotions in the way the people in the people are positioned. For example, two sisters could be playing together while standing close together. This shows that the sisters love each other and have fun together paying.
These photos have shown me how to take better pictures. I have learned to include more emotion to catch and eye for longer. Jen’s photos are well composed. They are very organized and orderly. They are well balanced with good noise in the back and front. Her photos are pleasing to look at and tell a story.
In the first original image, is a boy sitting on a cobblestone driveway in his nice summer dress clothes. In my image there is a slightly older boy in his nice winter clothes. In both images the boys are sitting on a cobblestone drive smiling at the camera. Both of their smilies are lighting up the images. To set this image up all I told the model to do was sit cross legged on the pavement. He sat down and replicated the image perfectly. The angle of the camera in the original is from straight on. The angle I used was from below because it made the model look like a bigger focus. In the image a kind favor, are my sisters. Both of the images are set outside behind some log thin plants. In the original photo the older sister is on the right. Where as in the recreate the older sibling in on the left. I captured the happiness and love between the girls. The girls are hugging and smiling at the camera showing their emotions. In the photo Family, it is like a summary of both pictures where all the models come together for a final smile. People can see the emotions shared between the siblings. One way people can tell because of how their hands are placed over each other. They are all layering over each other showing a relationship and a connection between the girls and boy. I believe I recreated Jen Geer’s images by showing emotion and connections within the 8x10in frame.
